Ready, Set Kindergarten!

Give your child a head start on kindergarten. Ready, Set, Kindergarten! is a free, on-campus experience from United Way of Horry County that lets your rising kindergartner walk a real classroom, meet a teacher, and get comfortable with what their first day will look and feel like, all before the school year begins.

The program, presented by HTC, is open to all children entering kindergarten in Fall 2027. Your child does NOT need to attend the school hosting the session, every family in Horry County is welcome at any location. We recommend choosing the site closest to your home for convenience, unless that date is full, in which case please choose another nearby location and date.

Check for Kindergarten readiness

At your Ready, Set, Kindergarten! session, you and your child will:

Walk through an actual kindergarten classroom at your session's host school
Meet a kindergarten teacher and hear directly what the first day looks like
Receive a Kindergarten Readiness Checklist to take home
Get simple, practical activities you can practice together before the first day of school
Connect with other families going through the same transition

Sessions typically run about 45–60 minutes. No preparation needed, just bring yourself and your child!

All resources/materials provided are FREE of charge to each family in attendance, thank you to the generosity of HTC fully funding the program so any family can attend without barriers.
